My sister and I set out for an adventure of a lifetime we’d been planning for over the last year. After much research, I found that the cheapest way to get to Iceland was through Wow airlines. The prices were almost too good to be true… and shortly enough we found ourselves in a pickle at the airport.
The moment was finally here- to board the plane at 00:05. It had been a long day of travel already (just to get to the airport), we were exhausted and anxious to board the plane. We were in line to board, then when we scanned our boarding passes- just to find out that our boarding passes were invalid. So the clerk at our gate was able to re check us in and we were the last ones to board the plane! (Whew!) As it turned out, we were riding first class! Never had my knees not ever hit the seat in front of me on a plane- let alone an international 6 hour long flight! We were both so happy we could have cried!

After the most comfortable flight our our lives, we finally landed in Keflavík ( Iceland’s main airport, about a 40 min drive from Reykjavik). It was rainy and cold, but that’s what we expected and we were ready for the journey to start!

We had arranged to rent a car, so we hopped on a shuttle bus at the airport that took us to the car rental place.
What a fun little car to drive! We are looking forward to our adventures in it. Luckily, the driving in Iceland has been fairly easy to get around. I’d definitely say the hardest thing so far has been attempting to pronounce the street names!
Try being the copilot and telling me which street to turn on! Failing to pronounce anything correctly has been quite entertaining.
So we parked the car and walked around downtown Reykjavik (Iceland’s capitol). We roamed in various tourist stores and souvenir shops. Very interesting to see the different Viking style souvenirs. Iceland is also known for their wool production.
We sat down and ate a really good lunch. We quickly discovered how expensive Iceland is when we paid $50 for our meal together.
best Lox n bagel I have ever had!
Now that we were refueled after a long day of travel, we gained the energy to walk to the famous church in Reykjavik, Hallgrímskirkja. It’s a Lutheran Church, the tallest church in the country and among the tallest structures in the country.

Had beautiful panoramic views of the city from atop of the church.
Then to explore a little more in the city we heard about the Icelandic Phallological Museum. It was probably crazy to pay $15 per ticket but it was definitely entertaining to say the least. Savannah’s face describes perfectly how we felt walking through the museum. Pictured below is a sperm whale penis.

We didn’t have a whole lot of time to spend in Reykjavik, but we made the best of our time (especially being a tad jet lagged). We are looking forward to leaving the city tomorrow and venturing out into the nature. Excited to see what the land of fire and ice is all about!!
