A good night’s sleep, check. Full tank of gas, check. Road trip mapped out, check. Coffee and shower, check. An itch for more adventure, check! Officially ready for another day in Iceland.
It was a beautiful sunny day in Selfoss, where we stayed the night and shared an entire Airbnb home with other travelers. It was interesting getting to talk with a lady from Amsterdam, she was giving me tips on where to go when I visit there in a few weeks. Selfoss is a small town just south of the golden circle. We loaded up the car and headed south.
First stop was Seljalandsfoss waterfall. It’s located right off of the highway so we saw it for miles as we were driving towards it.

I have no words. So amazing!!
A short walk from Seljandsfoss was another amazing waterfall, Gljurfrafoss. To get to it, we had to walk through a small creek (made from the waterfall) and through 2 mountains to get inside to it.

The beauty was unreal and like nothing we’ve ever experienced.
Since we missed the thermal river yesterday, we were itching to get into thermal water of some sort. So the next stop was Seljavallalaug, Iceland’s first geothermal pool (built in 1923). We parked the car and it was about a 20 minute hike on an unmarked path to get to. What a view!!

We were actually the first ones to arrive so it was nice having the entire pool to ourselves for a little while. Hot spring water was flowing into the pool off the side of a mountain. The pool was a very warm comfortable temperature. Especially for only being around 45 degrees Fahrenheit outside.

*side note- about 4 hours later on our road trip, Savannah realized that she left her swimsuit there in the changing stalls.
From the pool, we continued to head south east. Some incredible views we encountered along the way-

Not pictured: about 75 more waterfalls along the way to our next destination! They were everywhere! At times it felt as if we on different planets!
Our last stop of the day, Black Sand Diamond Beach!

Don’t let our faces fool you, we were miserably cold! The winds seem to be blowing at a solid 50 mph! For example, I spit and it flew about 20 feet. Oh, and our car door almost broke off when opening it. Despite the crazy winds and bitter cold, we loved our stop here! The coolest beach we’ve ever seen 😉
Once again, Iceland has continued to wow us. Each day we fall more in love with this beautiful country!

Only one more full day left here, then on to Ireland! Thanks for following along our journey!
